Letter to Readers
Its summer and here in the Northwest...someone forgot to
tell spring as the raindrops continue to water our stunning roses! As
I walked around the Pearl district this week there were white sailor
uniforms everywhere! The Navy ships are in for the Rose Festival and
the city is bustling with activity. It is that time of year for kids
to say goodbye to school in anticipation of wonderful summer
adventures. Check out the Threads of Wisdom Camp Cuddles Ritual for
some summer fun ideas. College graduates are also getting creative as
they try and maneuver through a tumultuous job market. I am in hopes
that they will venture into the world of self direction and innovative
small businesses that will enrich all of our lives. Who better to
invest in than yourself!
For the rest of us, summer may be filled with adventures closer to home and
reinventing some new pathways of our own. Whether in our garden or in
our careers, keep the faith, America is an ever changing landscape leading
the way on reinvention. Push the fears aside, relax with a Junebug
spritzer, and let the creative juices of your mind flow. For your
home making ideas, remember to celebrate the small details and create
memory makers for your family. Thriving community gardens are very
popular here in my own Bonny Slope neighborhood. Canning up the fresh
organic harvest could be the perfect fundraiser I have been looking
for! If your summer plans beckon you to more lofty ambitions of
starting a home based business, start by crafting a space to work that
feeds your soul. Then keep in mind Daniel Pink's three A's,
Automation - Make sure a computer can't do it better or faster
Asia - Make sure it can't be sent offshore to be done cheaper
Abundance - America is abundant, no matter how much we are hurting right
now. Create with high concept and high touch; use that right side of
your brain and craft your possibilities!
Have a beautiful summer with your friends and family!
Peace begins at home!

Camp
Cuddles
By
Allene Anliker
My
daughter and I had had a long, hard year through 2006 and 2007. We saw my
father through a health crisis that included worsening Dementia. He spent
the final portion of his life in a residential care facility. Several times
a week, Katie and I would make the trek to see him. It was very hard on her
for many reasons, not the least of which, the sadness and loss she saw me
going through. It was hard to be present for her while taking care of my
father's needs, work, and the tasks of daily life.
