Featured Ritual Celebration: Camp Cuddles
By Allene Anliker My daughter and I had had a long, hard
year through 2006 and 2007. We saw my father through a health crisis
that included worsening Dementia. He spent the final portion of his
life in a residential care facility. Several times a week, Katie and
I would make the trek to see him. It was very hard on her for many
reasons, not the least of which, the sadness and loss she saw me
going through. It was hard to be present for her while taking care
of my father's needs, work, and the tasks of daily life. After he
died, she was lucky enough to be accepted at a special camp for
children who have lost a family member, Camp Erin. Katie was so
excited about the experience.
As I was checking out her cabin, I noticed that on each child's
bunk a stuffed animal and quilt made by a volunteer had been placed
there. read the

Inspirational Quote
Buddhist teacher Thich Nhat Hanh, says we
meditate to: "dwell deeply in the present moment,
where you can touch seeds of joy, peace, and liberation, heal and
transform your suffering, and be truly present for many others."

Summer 2008 Newsletter
It is summer time in the Northwest, but someone forgot to
tell Mother Nature! That's right, there is snow on our camp
grounds, and here at Wisdom Quilts, everyday brings a different set
of temperatures. Last week we climbed to 95 degrees and today
plummeted to 56 degrees. Well, that is the beauty of this
magical place. As we begin to make plans for our summer
adventures, like many Americans, those of us at Wisdom Quilts are
planning our summer fun close to home. With gas prices
climbing it is time to rediscover the unique and wonderful
destinations in our own backyard. Some of our favorite summer
highlights include the teeming farmers markets, evening concerts at
the Zoo, berry picking followed by sessions of jam making, wild
rides down the river, and long lingering days in our parks with
fifteen to seventeen hours of golden sun shine. So think
inside the box this summer and rediscover the best destinations in
your backyard. Start at home, with a spa weekend for your
quilting pals and unplug the phones and computers. Spend a
weekend collecting sand dollars on the beach, or make a hunt for
quilter's candy packets from your local quilt shops for a new summer
project in miniature. Invite the kids and neighbors for an old
fashioned BBQ with croquet matches or water balloon fights.
Toss your softest quilts across a patch of grass and cozy chairs
where you and a favorite friend can chat or read a story over a
glass of refreshing vanilla lemonade. Don't forget to dust off
the ice cream maker and let the kids make their favorite flavor the
old fashioned way. As the evening light lingers gather around
your patio campfire and tell ghost stories to the kids while making
our yummy Peanut Butter S'mores recipe that explodes in your mouth
with rich, delicious textures making seconds a requirement to
confirm it was really that good! Send the kids off to their
tents and cuddle quilts, while the adults put on some soft music and
star gaze, or for those with toes a tapping, have a ballroom dance
off. The best part, you say good night and crawl into your own
cozy bed. Where ever your summer journeys take you,
remember to appreciate the small things in your day and make time to
share them with those around you. Peace begins at home ~ Mary

Recipe - Chocolate
Peanut Butter S'mores
Ingredients:
1 Box Chocolate Graham Crackers
1 Bag Bite Size Reeses Peanut Butter Cups
1 Bag Marshmallows Preparations:
Roast your marshmallow over fire, place on chocolate graham
cracker, put a peanut butter cup on top with another chocolate
graham cracker. Enjoy!
Comment: It was really dark outside as
I prepared these for the first time. I removed the foil from my
Reeses Peanut Butter Cup but didn't notice the paper lining. I bit
into my S'more and said, "Mmmmm ... Ooooo ... what's this!" as I
spit out the paper and told everyone I forgot to remove it. They
really thought that was funny, but I would advise removing both the
foil and paper! They are delicious! Mary
