Featured Ritual Celebration: Late Night Bunny
Hunt
By Mary Jo Saavedra Easter time has always been a big
celebration at our house. After church we share a delicious potluck
buffet with friends and family and then have our traditional egg
hunt. This year however, my twelve year old decided she was too old
for the traditional egg hunt, so we found ourselves in search of a
new tradition. In comes Pam, my very clever friend and
neighbor, who I do believe out performs me in the art of
celebrations and traditions. She has a gift for taking the ordinary
and making it extraordinary! Well in my plight to replace the
traditional egg hunt I sent out an S.O.S. and it was Pam who called
just days before the big event and said she had the idea to save our
Easter. A late night Easter egg hunt with flashlights! Yes, I know,
it was brilliant. Read the

Spring 2008 Newsletter
The smell of liquid rain and potting soil is filling the air
in the Northwest today. We call it Raindrops to Roses in
Portland, and when the sun comes out and the rain still falls, it is
sheer beauty! Hope of warmer days begins to fill our
daydreams. The children are getting restless and anxious to
get outside, and the early spring bulbs are sending up their feelers
to see if it is safe to make their grand appearance. Catch
your breath and retreat to your favorite spot in the garden this
month with a warm cup of tea and some delicious Hepburn family
brownies. It is a season when all life and hope renews
itself. Be a part of the rebirth. Be purposeful about
giving your smiles this spring in honor of National Smile Month.
Give hugs and see if your mood infects others. Choose to
breath and be thankful for the abundance that surrounds you!
Peace begins at home!

Recipe - Star-Studded
Brownies (Makes 9 large brownies)
This recipe
comes from the Laurie Colwin's More Home Cooking
(HarperCollins 1993). Her recipe came from a friend who got the
recipe from an article about Katherine Hepburn. A Hepburn family
recipe, these brownies are a divine snack when watching a
contemporary sitcom or an old classic movie.
Ingredients: 1 stick butter (8
tablespoons) 2 1-ounce squares unsweetened chocolate 1 cup
sugar 2 eggs 1/2 teaspoon vanilla 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt 1 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
Preparations: Preheat the oven
to 425 degrees. Butter and flour an 8-inch-square pan and set aside.
Melt together butter and chocolate and take the saucepan off the
heat. Stir in sugar, add the eggs and vanilla and beat the mixture
well. Stir in flour and salt. Add nuts if desired. Pour batter
into the pan and bake for 40 minutes. |
